How we use your information
Plain-English summary of how GOSA Cooperative handles members' personal information, in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
- Identity: name, date of birth, gender, passport photograph and a government-issued ID; optionally your BVN and NIN.
- Contact: email, mobile number, residential address and an emergency contact.
- Work: occupation, employer or business.
- Financial: your payout bank account, contribution plan and, as services open, your savings, loans and payments with the cooperative.
- Security: sign-in times, devices and network addresses, and a record of actions taken on your account.
Why we collect it
To run your membership: confirm who you are, keep the member register the law and our bye-laws require, pay money only to the right person, assess loans responsibly, protect member funds against fraud, and meet our reporting and audit obligations.
Who can see it
Only authorised officers whose role needs it. Sensitive details — BVN, NIN and full account numbers — are encrypted and hidden even from most staff; the few who can reveal them must record why, and every view is logged. Auditors may review records to check the cooperative is run properly. We never sell your information or use it for marketing by others.

How long we keep it
For as long as you are a member and afterwards for the period the cooperative's governing body sets for financial and audit records. Retention periods are being finalised with professional advice; this notice will be updated when they are.
Your rights
You can see most of your information in the app at any time, update your contact details yourself, and ask us to correct anything else. You may also ask what we hold about you, or object to or ask us to restrict how we use it, subject to our legal obligations. Contact the cooperative to make a request.
